The description above would fit about 75% of the French female population. We adore food in all its rich diversity, we love discussing and preparing new and ancient recipes, we love giving talked-about-for-weeks dinner parties. Nothing pleases us more than gathering our friends and family around a beautifully dressed table and then spoiling them with several courses of the most irresistible delicacies.
But we also pride ourselves on our neat and trim figures. We spend time regularly at our beauticians, hairdresser and local (or distant!) spa. We take regular incorporated-into-our-daily-activities exercise.
We love exquisite lingerie and elegant, stylish, timeless clothes that compliment our figures. We love fashion shows and dressing up.
So how do we do it?
There is one French Secret that most authors about the French eating philosophy neglect:
How do we remain motivated to stay slim and look after ourselves year after year after year, until we are deep into our dotage? For us beauty has no age. French men honour and adore women of all ages, one of our favourite actresses Catherine Deneuve is way past sixty, and get more beautiful and elegant with each passing year.
So how do we do that?
That I’ll tell you straight-away. We have figured out that motivation is a bit like the gas you put into your car every couple of days. Driving around uses it up. It is much the same with motivation. Daily living needs a lot of focused attention and motivation. You need to stay motivated to go to work, to maintain friendships, to look after your family, to stay slim, eat healthily and look after yourself. When your motivation stores are depleted, you stop paying attention to the most dispensable part of the equation: YOU!
To avoid this regretful state of affairs, we pay constant attention to the gauge of our motivation tank. When we run low, we fill up with high-quality long-lasting pure motivation.
And where do we get it?
Living in France, with all its gorgeous fresh fruit and vegetable markets does give us an unfair advantage, that I will concede.
